VitalChek Review

VtialChek is becoming a popular place to place orders for family birth/death certificates and other important family historical documents. With ancestor research becoming more and more popular, VitalChek has been very busy.

My first order with VitalChek was ordering my great great grandfathers death certificate. I use the standard mail service and had the death certificate mailed within a couple months. The estimated processing time in the order confirmation email is not accurate, so please do not expect the document within the time they estimate. I then tried to use there expedited service using UPS. It has been about a month past the estimated processing time and I still have not received the death certificate. I called VitalChek who then refered me to State of Pennsylvania vital records section. So, needlesstosay I thought I have just started a phone tag session. I was then told that they will have to check on the status and they would get back with me. There seems to be no quick fix to mailing the peice of paper to me, even though I paid the expedited shipping (Order was $38.00).

Once I get this resolved, I will be asking for a shipping cost refund from VitalChek.

Cost for expedited service: $38.00
Cost for standard service: $19.00

Reccomendation: If your state has a vial records section, just go straight to them and order the record. There is no need to order through VitalChek. Yes, it is convenient, but not necessary. Also, do not use the expedited service, as it is useless and a big money maker.
