Notes for John Fairfax Bayly:
His father could be Levin Bayly and mother Hepsey Cord who were married in 1799. John was born circa 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.1,2 John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Fairfax Bayly the head of HH#1000, age 50 and a laborer. Listed with him were Lewis Bayly, age 18; Fairfax Bayly, age 16; Julianna Bayly, age 13; Susan Bayly, age 8; and Polly Chesser, age 46. Henry Hall and Samuel Sparrow were neighbors..1 John died in 1860. He was not found in the 1870 Accomack Co census records.. John was listed with his son in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Bayley, age 60, in HH#224 headed by his son Louis Bayley, age 26. Polly Bayley, age 60, was also listed in this household..2

Polly was born circa 1804 at Accomack Co, VA.1 Polly was listed with another family in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Polly Chesser, age 46, in HH#1000 headed by Fairfax Bayly, age 50. Also listed were Julianna Bayly, age 13 and Susan Bayly, age 8, who, according to their marriage records, were the daughters of Polly Chesser. (NOTE: It is not clear why were were shown in the census as Baylys and on their marriage records as Chessers. Perhaps Polly Chesser was a housekeeper for Fairfax Bayly and were never married, as no marriage record has been found.).1 Polly died in 1860. She was not found in the 1870 Accomack Co census.

Drummond and Elizabeth. He was born in Jan 1838 in Accomack County, Virginia[3, 4]. He died on 09 Dec 1922 in Sanford, Virginia.


Notes for Susan Chesser:
Susan was born circa 1842 at Accomack Co, VA.2 Susan was listed with her mother in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Susan Bayly, age 8, in HH#1000 headed by Fairfax Bayly, age 50. Also in this household was her mother Polly Chesser, age 46. Polly Chesser and Fairfax Bayly were apparently not married, as they had different surnames. Why Susan is listed as a Bayly rather than as a Chesser in this record is not known..2 She married Constantine Drummond, Sr., son of William H. Drummons and Elizabeth Unknown, on 12 July 1857 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Constantine Drummond (no parents shown) and she was shown as Susan Chesser the daughter of Polly Chesser, who gave consent. James Taylor said he was over 21. (Note: According to her age in the 1850 census, she would have been only age 15 at the time of her marriage.).1 Susan was listed with her husband in the census of in 1910 at on Hammock's Road, Acc Co, VA. She was age 67 and was listed as the wife of Constantine Drummond, having been married for 52 years, and having given birth to 11 children of which 7 were living..3 Susan died on 9 December 1922 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA. Mr. Constantine Drummond of Sanford died at 1 p.m., 9 Dec 1922, aged 88 years and a retired oysterman. His wife, before marriage Miss Susan Bailey, died the same day at 6 p.m., aged 77 years. They both died of pneumonia..4

Constantine was born circa 1838 at Accomack Co, VA.1 Constantine was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Constantine Drummond, age 12 in HH#810 headed by Wm. H. Drummond, a 64 year old carpenter..1 He married Susan Chesser, daughter of John Fairfax Bayly and Polly Chesser, on 12 July 1857 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Constantine Drummond (no parents shown) and she was shown as Susan Chesser the daughter of Polly Chesser, who gave consent. James Taylor said he was over 21. (Note: According to her age in the 1850 census, she would have been only age 15 at the time of her marriage.).2 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Hammock's Road, Acc Co, VA.3 Constantine died on 9 December 1922 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA. Mr. Constantine Drummond of Sanford died at 1 p.m., 9 Dec 1922, aged 88 years and a retired oysterman. His wife, before marriage Miss Susan Bailey, died the same day at 6 p.m., aged 77 years.
